ILLINISA SOUTH

Moderate-High_Level

Illiniza North 5248 m

2 days, 1 night
Iliniza Sur (5,248 m / 17,218 ft) is one of the most challenging peaks in the Ecuadorian Andes. Its permanent glaciers, snow slopes, and sections of rock and ice create a true alpine climbing experience.
The ascent begins at the Nuevos Horizontes Refuge and follows the mountain’s southwest face, featuring slopes of up to 40 degrees, exposed rock sections, and mixed terrain that demands excellent fitness, proper acclimatization, and alpine climbing skills.
Reaching the summit is a rewarding achievement for mountaineers seeking a demanding high-altitude challenge and preparation for more technical glaciated peaks in the Andes.
