The Cotopaxi volcano, also known as “Neck of the Moon” (Cuello de Luna), is a young active stratovolcano with a perfect cone shape with a crater on the top, from where _glaciers descend from all flanks, being the highest and most active volcano in the Andes and in the world, its last and biggest eruption dates back to June 26, 1887.
Day 1
- Departure from Quito towards the Cotopaxi national park
- Visit the information center, passing by the Limpiopungo lagoon
- Continue the route towards the parking area at a height of 4600 m there we proceed to dress with the respective equipment
- Walk to the refuge JOSE RIVAS at 4864 m
- At the refuge organization and technical information
Day 2
- Ascent Cotopaxi volcano to the summit at 5897 m
- Descent to the refuge at 4864 m
- At the refuge we will take time to rest, eat and hydrate
- Return to Quito or to your destination
National Guide Certified in high mountains by MINTUR (Ministry of Tourism)
in languages (Spanish, English, French)
Technical equipment (crampons, climbing boots, harness, mountain gloves
or mittens, helmet, headlamp, pickaxe.)
4×4 transport
