The Cotopaxi or also known as Cuello de Luna (Neck of the Moon), is a young active stratovolcano with a perfect cone shape and a crater on its summit, from where glaciers descend from all sides, being the highest active volcano in the Andes and in the world, Its last major eruption dates back to June 26, 1887.
Day Program
- Departure from Quito towards Cotopaxi National Park
- Visit the information center, we pass the Limpiopungo lagoon
- Continue the route towards the parking area at 4600 m
- Ascend to the «Jose Rivas» refuge at 4864 m
- Wear the respective technical equipment
- Begin the ascent to Jose Rivas refuge at 4864 m
- Take time to rest, eat and hydrate
- Descent until the parking
- Return to Quito or to your destination
- Private transport.
