ILLINIZA NORTH

Moderate Level

Illiniza North 5126 m

2 days, 1 night

The summit of Iliniza Norte, at an elevation of 5,126 meters above sea level, is part of a massif that originally formed a single mountain. This impressive peak is considered one of the best acclimatization climbs for mountaineers seeking to achieve proper altitude adaptation before attempting higher summits.

Iliniza Norte offers two clearly defined routes. The standard route ascends and descends along the same trail, passing by the mountain refuge and crossing the famous “Arenal,” a steep slope of volcanic sand and loose scree. Both routes end in the Virgen sector, where the parking area is located.

Thanks to its spectacular scenery and its significance as an acclimatization peak, Iliniza Norte provides an ideal experience for climbers preparing for higher-altitude challenges in the Ecuadorian Andes.
